Nebraska baseball’s season concluded with a loss to Arizona State in the NCAA Tournament. An early deficit proved too much for Nebraska to overcome on Sunday afternoon, dashing their hopes of advancing.
Sun Devils Take Early Lead
Arizona State initiated the scoring in the 1st inning. Nu’u Contrades hit a solo home run, giving Arizona State a 1-0 lead.
Nebraska responded in the 3rd inning when Joshua Overbeek hit a solo home run, tying the game at 1-1.
Arizona State’s bats then came alive in the bottom half of the inning. The Sun Devils scored four runs on four hits and a Nebraska error. Dominic Longo capped it off with a two-run home run.
Arizona State Extends Their Advantage
Arizona State added another run in the 5th inning, with a home run by Dominic Smaldino. Smaldino then hit his second home run of the game in the very next inning, this time a grand slam.
Huskers’ Rally Falls Short
The Huskers tallied five runs in the 7th inning, including RBI’s from Rhett Stokes and Mac Moyer.
Despite adding two more runs in the 9th inning, Nebraska’s rally attempt was stopped by Arizona State, resulting in an 11-8 victory for the Sun Devils.

Nebraska’s season ends with a 43-17 record. It was the first season that the Huskers hosted an NCAA Regional since 2008.
