The Liga MX semifinal pairings are confirmed after a series of dramatic quarterfinal matches. Pumas squeezed past Club América, while reigning champion Toluca were knocked out.
Pumas Survive Club América Thriller
Pumas progressed to the semifinals after an instant classic against Club América. Pumas initially took a commanding lead, going 3-0 up in the first 23 minutes. This extended their aggregate lead to 6-3.
América fought back, scoring twice before halftime and having a third goal ruled out for offside. They eventually found a third goal via Alejandro Zendejas, who headed in a cross from Brian Rodriguez. América needed one more goal due to the tiebreaker favouring the team with the better regular-season finish.
In the 86th minute, América were awarded a controversial penalty, but Henry Martin’s shot hit the post. Pumas held on for a 3-3 draw, securing their place in the next round.
Pachuca Eliminate Reigning Champions
