Liam Delap: Everton Transfer on the Cards After Chelsea Struggles?

Everton could make a fresh move for Liam Delap this summer, after missing out on him last year to Chelsea.

Former Everton star Pat Nevin believes Everton would be the ideal club for Delap to revive his career.

Delap’s Chelsea Struggles

Delap opted to join Chelsea after Everton held talks with him last summer. Manchester United were also interested. His move to Stamford Bridge hasn’t gone as planned, with just two goals in 38 appearances in all competitions.

Andy Townsend said Delap has to get razor-sharp this summer and at the start of next season and look like he wants to make a difference.

Everton as a Potential Destination

Pat Nevin believes Everton would be the obvious place for Delap. He said it would be brilliant for everyone and a safer bet for him.

Nevin said, “I don’t see him going back to Ipswich. Everton would be the obvious place. Absolutely nailed on.”

Nevin explained why Delap would be a good fit for Everton. He stated that it’s not exactly about the number of goals scored for Everton and that the team needs a certain type of player to hold up the ball, run the channels, and stretch the game so that the quality players behind him get a chance to shine.

Opportunity at Everton

Andy Townsend said there’s an opportunity at Everton with Thierno Barry and Beto at the club. He thinks somebody could go in there and grab a shirt.

  • Delap is a big, bustling, hard-running, aggressive centre forward.
  • There’s another dimension to his game that he’s got to find.

Townsend noted that it is difficult for a centre-forward to be overly aggressive nowadays. He added that if you’re not playing a lot of football at a club like Chelsea, you don’t get the minutes to keep yourself ticking over.

Nevin concluded that Chelsea is not the right place for Delap.
