Jannik Sinner’s Rome Semifinal Against Medvedev Halted by Rain

The Internazionali BNL d’Italia has been disrupted by rain, leaving Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev’s semifinal match to be completed on Saturday in Rome.

Sinner led 6-2, 5-7, 4-2, with Medvedev serving at ad in when the match was halted.

The decision to suspend play was made by chair umpire Aurélie Tourte.

Sinner had earlier questioned the conditions after missing a break point chance, which led to a discussion with Tourte.

Medvedev walked off without an umbrella.

Sinner’s Fitness and Pursuit of Golden Masters

The world No. 1, Sinner, appeared not to be fully fit leading up to the stoppage.

He was seen leaning over in a corner of the court while trailing 1-3 in the second set.

Sinner also took a medical timeout during the deciding set’s 3-2 changeover.

Sinner is aiming to complete a Career Golden Masters on home soil.

He is also carrying a record 32-match win streak at the ATP Masters 1000 level.

Medvedev’s Rome Title Defence

Medvedev is a former champion in Rome, having triumphed in 2023.

It was his first clay-court crown.

Resumption of Play

The match is scheduled to resume on Saturday not before 3 p.m. local time.

Casper Ruud, who defeated Luciano Darderi, awaits the winner.

Sinner and Medvedev are scheduled to resume play on Saturday.
