LeBron James Confirms Shattered Backboard Incident with Bronny

LeBron James has confirmed that he once broke a backboard while playing one-on-one against his son, Bronny James.

After the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over the Brooklyn Nets, Bronny spoke about the time he and his father matched up in a game of one-on-one. According to Bronny, the elder James broke a backboard.

The Shattered Backboard in Miami

Following the Lakers’ win over the Washington Wizards, LeBron confirmed the one-on-one game against his son ended with glass on the driveway. “We had a hoop in our driveway and I drove around him and dunked it. I didn’t mean to shatter the glass but, I shattered it,” LeBron recalled.

The game took place at their Miami residence in 2014, according to the James duo. LeBron said that while Bronny, now 21, made a couple of shots, the outcome was never in doubt.

“That’s like Miami Bron — that’s like invincible Bron, so it’s not like he was about to win,” LeBron joked.

Aftermath of the Dunk

After the backboard was broken, LeBron couldn’t recall if they replaced it. “I didn’t mean to shatter it — I had to buy another one, or did I even buy another one? Bronny, did I even buy another hoop?” LeBron asked.

“I don’t think you did,” Bronny replied.

“I don’t think I did either. Yeah, I think that was it.”

As the world awaits a one-on-one rematch between the duo, LeBron is currently averaging 20.9 points, six rebounds and seven assists in the 2025-26 regular season.
