It’s set to be a summer of changes at Rangers. The departure of Kieran Wright, who has been at Ibrox for 17 years, has been confirmed.
Wright’s Ibrox Career Ends
Kieran Wright joined the club as a 10-year-old 17 years ago. He progressed all the way to the first team and signed his first professional contract in 2016. Despite being in and around the first team for a decade, Wright failed to make a single first team appearance for the Gers.
He had several loan spells away from Ibrox. These included stints at Livingston, Airdrieonians, Partick Thistle and Raith.
Wright finished the current campaign on loan at Kilmarnock. The Rugby Park outfit were dealing with an injury crisis in the goalkeeper position.
Emotional Farewell
There will be no new deal for Wright, who confirmed he’s leaving Rangers. Posting on Instagram, Wright said it was time to part ways after 17 years at the club.
Wright said he was fortunate to be part of so many unforgettable moments and meet some truly amazing people. He added that he made memories that will last a lifetime, but all good things must come to an end.
Teammates React
Teammates Jack Butland, Connor Barron and Findlay Curtis were among those to wish Wright well.
Other Departures From Ibrox
Wright, 27, signed a one-year contract extension last summer and was third choice behind Jack Butland and Liam Kelly.
Captain James Tavernier announced last month that he would be leaving Rangers after 11 years.
Loanees Mikey Moore, Max Aarons and Nasser Djiga will be among the high profile players to move on too. There are certain to be further permanent departures from the club too.
The 34-year old’s time at the club ended in rather acrimonious circumstances and controversy after a fall out with boss Danny Rohl.
The exodus has continued with the departure of one player who has been at Ibrox for SEVENTEEN years.
Wright joined Rangers as a 10 year old boy, and after 17 years at the club, it’s time to part ways.
