Kane Injury Update as Bayern Munich Win Thriller

Bayern Munich overcame a two-goal deficit to secure a 3-2 victory against Freiburg, with Lennart Karl scoring the winning goal in the 99th minute.

The Bundesliga leaders were without Harry Kane, who was sidelined with an ankle injury.

Kane’s Injury and Bayern’s Response

England captain Harry Kane missed Bayern’s match against Freiburg due to the same ankle problem that kept him out of the Three Lions’ 1-0 defeat by Japan at Wembley on Tuesday.

Manager Vincent Kompany remains optimistic that Kane could play in the first leg of Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Without Kane, Bayern initially struggled, finding themselves down 2-0 after 81 minutes.

Freiburg’s Lead and Bayern’s Fightback

Freiburg took the lead with a stunning 25-yard strike from Johan Manzambi in the first minute of the second half.

They doubled their advantage in the 71st minute when Lucas Holer scored after Neuer parried a corner into his path.

However, Bayern responded with three late goals. Tom Bischof, 20, scored twice from outside the penalty area, including a 92nd-minute equaliser.

Karl, 18, completed the comeback, converting Alphonso Davies’ low cross at the back post to secure the win for Bayern.

Match Details and Incidents

  • Lennart Karl received a yellow card for excessive celebration.
  • Noah Atubolu of Freiburg was also shown a yellow card.
  • Christian Günter (SC Freiburg) is shown the yellow card.

The match saw Freiburg goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who turned 40 last week, make a reflex save to deny Philipp Lienhart’s diving header, although it was ruled offside.

With this victory, Bayern reached 100 goals in the Bundesliga this season, achieving this feat in just 28 matches.

Freiburg’s Maximilian Eggestein had an attempt blocked in the closing stages, while Igor Matanovic missed a shot from outside the box.

Freiburg are eighth in the German Bundesliga.
