The Atlanta Falcons have received news that Kaleb McGary has announced his retirement. McGary’s agent, Collin Roberts, made the announcement on Wednesday. McGary, 31, had been the starting right tackle. He was drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
McGary’s Impact on the Falcons’ Offensive Line
McGary started nearly every game for the Falcons. He was a stalwart on what had been a very good offensive line in Atlanta over the previous two seasons. McGary suffered a season-ending injury prior to the 2025 NFL season, shortly after signing an extension through 2027.
His absence was missed in 2025. The Falcons turned to reserve guard Elijah Wilkinson for the entirety of the season. Swing tackle Storm Norton also missed the entirety of the season with an injury sustained in the summer.
Falcons’ Options at Right Tackle
The Falcons were expecting McGary back for training camp. His retirement leaves the Falcons with a need for a starting right tackle. Wilkinson departed in free agency for the Arizona Cardinals.
The job now rests in the hands of Storm Norton once again. Norton has filled in admirably when called upon, but stepping in as a full-time starter has gone poorly for him throughout his career.
Addressing the Offensive Tackle Need
Offensive tackle immediately rockets to the top of Atlanta’s offseason needs. With free agency behind and no first round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Falcons options for replacing McGary are limited. It’s likely a temporary solution will be needed for the season.
The team are expected to look closely at available free agents and veterans on the trade market.
We wish McGary well in the next stage of his career.
