Justin Rose, who has previously expressed his enjoyment of playing in the Philadelphia area, finished his second round at the PGA Championship in style.
Rose won the AT&T National at Aronimink in 2010. He also claimed his lone major win at the U.S. Open at Merion in 2011.
Rose’s Challenging Second Round
Rose grinded out a solid even-par 70 on Thursday. Friday brought more difficult conditions with strong winds.
Rose was 5-over for the day when he reached the 590-yard par-5 ninth hole in Round 2. He knew he had to be aggressive.
Rose sent his approach shot into some heavy rough short and left of the green with a fairway wood from the middle of the fairway. It looked like he was on his way to a missed cut.
An Unlikely Eagle Changes Everything
In a major, things can change in an instant.
After surveying his lie – 76 feet away from the hole – Rose delivered one of the shots of the tournament. He pitched in for an unlikeliest of eagles for a 3-over 73.
Through two rounds, he sits at 3-over for the Championship and just outside the cutline, which will likely move in his favour as the day goes on.
