Jose Leclerc has agreed to a minor-league contract with the San Diego Padres.
Leclerc’s Recovery and Potential Role
Leclerc is working his way back from right shoulder surgery. He has resumed throwing off the mound. He is aiming to make his season debut by July.
The 32-year-old has a career 13.1 percent walk rate. He also boasts a 30.8 percent strikeout rate over parts of nine big-league seasons.
Potential High-Leverage Relief
There’s no guarantee Leclerc’s stuff bounces all the way back after his shoulder operation.
If it does, he could eventually see high-leverage relief work in San Diego.
The Padres will be hoping Leclerc can regain his form and contribute to their bullpen later in the season.
