Iowa Women’s Basketball to Face Illinois in Big Ten Quarterfinals

Iowa’s women’s basketball team, seeded second, are set to face tenth-seeded Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals. The match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT on Friday, March 6, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Illinois’ Path to the Quarterfinals

Illinois secured their place in the quarterfinals after a 71-69 victory over seventh-seeded Michigan State on Thursday. This win follows their opening-round victory against Wisconsin. The Fighting Illini will be playing their third game in as many days.

Previous Meeting in February

The Hawkeyes recently played Illinois in a game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa won that match 82-78 on Feb. 26, in a game that included 14 lead changes. Iowa had to come back from a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

In that previous contest, Illinois proved accurate from beyond the arc, making 11 of 19 3-point attempts. Ava Heiden scored 28 points, spearheading a rally for Iowa.

Looking Ahead to the Quarterfinal

The upcoming quarterfinal match promises to be a competitive affair, given the close contest between the two teams in February.
