Hofstra Pride Face Alabama Crimson Tide in NCAA Tournament

The NCAA Tournament continues, with the Alabama Crimson Tide set to face the Hofstra Pride.

Hofstra’s Path to the Tournament

The Hofstra Pride, representing the Coastal Athletic Association, are making their fifth appearance in the Big Dance. Their last appearance was in 2001, when Jay Wright was the coach. Wright took them to back-to-back appearances before coaching at Villanova. Hofstra has never won an NCAA Tournament game.

This year’s Pride team is coached by Speedy Claxton, who played for Wright during one of those NCAA Tournament appearances at the turn of the century. Claxton was drafted 20th overall in the 2000 NBA Draft and won a championship in 2003 with the San Antonio Spurs.

Key Players for the Pride

Claxton’s experience as a point guard has benefited his current team, with Hofstra featuring a pair of dynamic guards. Cruz Davis averages 20.2 points per game and 4.6 assists per game, while Preston Edmead contributes 15.9 points per game and 4.4 assists per game. Davis shoots 44.3% from the field, 39.9% from three-point range, and 82.9% from the free-throw line. Edmead’s shooting percentages are 40.4%/38.3%/83.3%.

Both guards were instrumental during Hofstra’s CAA Tournament run. Edmead was particularly clutch in the semifinal overtime win against Towson. Hofstra also features two near seven-footers.

Alabama’s Perspective

The Alabama Crimson Tide, seeded fourth, enters the tournament for the sixth straight year, tying a program record. Nate Oats leads the team. Alabama is a substantial favourite in this game.
