High Point Panthers’ Coach Calls Out Major Conferences After Upset

High Point is celebrating its first March Madness victory after defeating Wisconsin.

The 12th-seeded Panthers overcame a double-digit deficit to beat No. 5 Wisconsin in a 83-82 upset.

Clayman’s Challenge to Power Four Schools

Head coach Flynn Clayman has challenged the Power Four schools for avoiding his team. According to Clayman, high-major schools need to play mid-major schools early in the season. Clayman said that nobody would play them, just like they wouldn’t play Miami (Ohio). He added that they have to play them in the tournament.

Game-Winning Moments for High Point

Chase Johnston scored the game-winning basket with 11.7 seconds remaining. Johnston’s layup was his first two-point basket of the season. Owen Aquino blocked a driving layup after Johnston’s basket gave High Point the lead.

Terry Anderson then stole Andrew Rohde’s long pass, sealing the victory for High Point and coach Flynn Clayman.

Panthers’ Tournament Journey

High Point earned a spot in the tournament by winning the Big South title for the second straight season. This was the first March Madness win for the Panthers. Last year, they lost to Purdue in the first round.

High Point did not have many opportunities to put the country on notice, as its entire schedule was filled with fellow mid-major schools.
