Great Birmingham Run: Road Closures and Event Details for 2026

Thousands of runners are preparing to take to the streets for the Great Birmingham Run. The sold-out race is a major fixture in the Midlands’ running calendar, and large crowds are expected to line the route.

Rolling road closures will be in place from 04:30.

Half Marathon and 10k Details

Approximately 16,000 participants will take part over the weekend. Events include a 10k and half marathon, as well as junior and mini runs.

On Sunday, the half marathon and 10k routes will start in Centenary Square and pass landmarks including the Jewellery Quarter, Grand Central and St Martin’s Church. Runners will cross the line at a new “festival-style” finish village at Aston University.

Runners on Sunday have been issued with different “wave” colours, determining the start time. Participants will set off between 08:30 and 10:24.

An information point will open in Centenary Square from 07:00, with runners expected to assemble from 07:30.

Road Closures and Travel Information

  • Road closures start at 04:30 with part of Broad Street closed to traffic.
  • Some roads around the city will remain closed until 17:00 on Sunday.
  • Residents living on affected roads are recommended to park outside of the closure area.
  • All roads will reopen by 17:00.

A full list of the roads affected is available on the event’s website.

Junior and Mini Runs

The Junior and Mini Great Birmingham Run will take place at the Alexander Stadium on Saturday. The site opens to the public at 08:00 with events starting from 09:00.

Three to eight-year-olds will run a mini distance of 1.5km, with juniors, aged nine to 15 running a 2.5km route. On-site car parking is available and can be accessed via Church Road.

Those taking part will be able to access their official results and event photos after crossing the finish line.

Looking Ahead to 2027

With places now sold out, organisers are encouraging those who missed out this year to register early interest for the 2027 event.
