Gerwyn Price Withdraws From World Cup of Darts Amid Health Concerns

Gerwyn Price has pulled out of the World Cup of Darts, marking the second time in three years he hasn’t competed at the event.

The Welshman, ranked eighth in the PDC’s Order of Merit, has been struggling with inconsistency and health concerns, alongside early Premier League exits.

Price’s Health Concerns

Price recently admitted he is battling health problems after a Premier League Darts loss. He said his focus is there, but “health-wise I am not in a great place at the moment.”

He added that he is battling on and searching for some results, hoping to be at ease and enjoy darts again in the next couple of weeks. Price hopes to make the play-offs but feels he needs a lot of luck to go his way.

Following a loss to Jonny Clayton, Price made the candid admission about his health.

World Cup Withdrawal Clarification

Price later clarified his decision to withdraw from the World Cup of Darts was not linked to his health. He posted on Instagram: “Just to clarify, I have not withdrawn from the World Cup because of health reasons,” along with three thumbs up.

Potential Hiatus From Darts

Price recently hinted at potentially stepping away from darts. After losing to Wessel Nijman in March’s European Darts Trophy final, he expressed his disappointment.

In an Instagram post, Price wrote: “Great weekend for me, another final but very frustrating in the end. Onto Dublin this week. Need a break from this, I think it’s so tough mentally. But I’ll push on, thanks for the support.”

The 41-year-old’s comments suggested he could be considering a hiatus following his struggles. Price has several ventures to focus on, including running a farm and operating a chip shop named Chippy 501.

Price is still on course to play at The O2 on May 28 despite the recent uncertainty. The former world champion has been expanding his business interests outside the sport in recent years.
