Gardner Shines as Meralco Defeat TNT in PBA Commissioner’s Cup

Patrick Gardner wasted no time making his mark with the Meralco Bolts, contributing to a 101-90 victory over TNT Tropang 5G in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semi-finals.

The win tied the best-of-seven series at 2-2.

Gardner’s Quick Transition Pays Off

Gardner’s appearance for Meralco came after a recent loss in the Japan B.League B2 Finals. He quickly packed his bags after receiving the call to replace Marvin Jones as Meralco’s import.

Speaking after the game at Araneta Coliseum, Gardner said that he thought it would be a great opportunity to play in a country with such huge basketball fans. Just days after a title loss, Gardner found himself with another opportunity to compete for a championship in the PBA.

Double-Double Debut

The 25-year-old import produced a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds in his debut. Gardner fouled out late in the fourth quarter.

Despite this, the Bolts held their ground to secure the win and level the series.

Focus on the Win

Gardner said that he was more focused on helping Meralco get the win. “I’m just happy we won the game ultimately,” he said. “It’s my first game here so I thought that was the most important thing.”

Meralco will be hoping Gardner can continue his impressive form as they look to progress in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
