Gap has formally announced its partnership with Hailey Bieber to introduce a new limited-edition denim capsule, officially named “The Hailey Jean.” This collaboration, which reimagines Gap’s relaxed denim icons, draws its inspiration from the effortless attitude of 1996 and Hailey Bieber’s personal style. The collection and its accompanying campaign are scheduled for launch on July 16, 2026.
The capsule is rooted in the Gap silhouettes that Hailey wears in real life, reflecting a modern approach to personal style. This approach is characterised by being relaxed, confident, and understated, according to the brand. The entire collection will be available on Gap.com, with select styles also appearing in all Gap stores across North America.
Introducing ‘The Hailey Jean’ Capsule
“The Hailey Jean” capsule includes two distinct relaxed fits. These are the Extra Baggy and the ‘90’s Low Rise Loose, both designed with Hailey Bieber’s laid-back approach to denim in mind. The collection draws directly from two of her favourite vintage Gap jeans, ensuring an authentic connection to her wardrobe.
These silhouettes feature updated fit proportions and custom washes, alongside specific “1996” design details. These details reference Hailey Bieber’s birth year, adding a personal touch to the garments. Furthermore, Hailey’s signature is printed inside the pocket lining of the jeans, making each piece uniquely hers.
The capsule offers a comprehensive range of six washes across both available fits. It is worth noting that the Low Rise Loose fit will be available exclusively through Gap.com, providing an online-only option for consumers.
Bieber’s Vision and Inspiration
Hailey Bieber herself commented on the collaboration, stating that Gap has been a consistent part of her wardrobe since she was a child, which allowed the partnership to come together very organically. She highlighted 1996 as her birth year and a significant source of style inspiration for her.
Bieber elaborated on her connection to the 1990s, noting that there was something inherently effortless about that era and the distinct way people wore denim. She expressed a desire for both the campaign and the collection to capture that identical feeling, presenting it in a manner that felt modern, nostalgic, and deeply personal.
The Accompanying Campaign
The campaign created for “The Hailey Jean” also takes inspiration from the year 1996. It was produced by Bolded, OBB’s branded content studio, which has a long-standing partnership with Hailey Bieber. The campaign aims to blend nostalgia, minimalism, and a touch of cheeky humour, all presented through a contemporary fashion point of view.
Still photography for the campaign was shot by Mario Sorrenti and styled by fashion and image consultant Alastair McKimm. These visuals feature the two fits of “The Hailey Jean” styled with classic Gap tees, subtly nodding to Gap’s iconic ’90s fashion imagery. This is achieved through clean studio visuals and understated styling references that evoke the era.
A campaign film, directed by Charlie Di Placido, further immerses viewers in the 1996 aesthetic. The film transports audiences back to that year with the instantly recognisable anthem “Linger” by The Cranberries, reinforcing the nostalgic theme.
Gap’s Design Perspective and Market Position
Jane Pattinson, Gap’s SVP and Global Head of Design, provided insight into the collaboration from the brand’s perspective. Pattinson stated that Hailey understands denim in a very instinctive way, comprehending everything from proportion and fit to how the fabric moves and wears on the body.
Pattinson further explained that the collection was built around the relaxed silhouettes Hailey naturally gravitates towards and the effortless manner in which she styles them in her everyday wardrobe. This involved refining various aspects, including the washes and fabric, as well as the understated ‘1996’ detailing found throughout the collection. Pattinson concluded that the pieces feel effortless, personal, and very true to both Hailey and Gap.
The limited-edition capsule is priced at $89. This launch builds upon the growing momentum surrounding Gap’s relaxed denim silhouettes, further positioning Gap denim at the confluence of fashion, music, and culture.
