Fury and Benn Secure Wins: Boxing Results from Last Night

Last night saw wins for both Tyson Fury and Conor Benn, as both fighters look to the future.

Benn Dominates Prograis, Calls Out Garcia

Conor Benn secured a comfortable unanimous decision win over Regis Prograis in the co-main event. Speaking after the fight, Benn quickly turned his attention to WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia. Benn said, “We don’t like southpaws, no one likes southpaws. Preparing for a southpaw is long.”

Despite the challenges Prograis presented, Benn believes he won every round apart from the head clashes. “Ultimately we got the job done, got through a few scratches, and keep it moving,” Benn stated. He added, “I’ve done what I needed to do, I believe I won every round apart from the head clashes. I just want to get my world title, I want Ryan Garcia next. I want my WBC belt, keep it warm for me. He can get it next, twice on Sunday’s, any day of the week I’ll give it you.”

Shakur Stevenson commented on Benn potentially facing him: “If he [Benn] makes it 12 rounds with me I’ll be disappointed in myself.”

According to Shakur Stevenson, “Garcia can really punch. Benn gets sparked out.”

Fury Eyes Joshua After Victory

Tyson Fury’s victory might have just sealed a super-fight with long-term rival Anthony Joshua. All the talk of Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury potentially meeting next means neither would be fighting for a world title in 2026.

Former world heavyweight champion David Haye said, “Fury did exactly what he needed to do. That was the optima.” He added, “I wish this fight happened 5 years ago. Pointless fight now. Do people feel the same as I do?”

One message stated, “Fury is embarrassing. Moses Itauma would need 4 rounds max to toy with him.”

There “still seems to be plenty of appetite out there for Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua even if they are past their prime.”

As one observer put it: It’s so often the way in the boxing, isn’t it?

Heavyweight Title Picture

Here’s how the heavyweight world title picture looks at the moment but that could change by the end of May.

  • Fabio Wardley puts his WBO title on the line against Daniel Dubois on 9 May.
  • Oleksandr Usyk is set to defend his WBC belt against Rico Verhoeven on 23 May.

Benn’s win over Regis Prograis puts him in the driving seat to face WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia.

Both Conor Benn and Tyson Fury wanted to get through unscathed and move on to bigger things.
