Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner suffered a left leg injury during the game against the Minnesota Timberwolves and headed straight to the locker room.
Wagner injured his knee after stopping on a fastbreak. Although there wasn’t a significant reaction from the crowd, the injury’s severity remains unknown. It could range from a minor knee bump to something that might affect his playoff availability.
Wagner did return to the bench in the third quarter, using a stationary bike. He later returned to the court.
Wagner’s Return From Ankle Sprain
Wagner had been increasing his activity after missing several months with a high ankle sprain. The game against the Timberwolves was his fourth since returning from the injury, following appearances against the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans. He did not play against the Detroit Pistons.
Impact on the Orlando Magic
The Magic have played a significant portion of the season without Wagner. The game against the Timberwolves was only his 32nd appearance. While the team has shown resilience, relying on Paolo Banchero and Desmond Bane, their offensive efficiency dips when Wagner is not playing.
Without Wagner’s ability to drive to the rim and create opportunities for others, the Magic’s offence can become stagnant, particularly in the halfcourt. If the injury is serious, Orlando will need increased scoring from Jalen Suggs and Moe Wagner.
Uncertainty Surrounding Wagner’s Playoff Availability
The severity of Wagner’s injury is unknown. Possibilities range from a minor knock to a more structural issue that could jeopardise his postseason availability. The team is expected to be cautious with him in the final two games of the regular season.
His status for Friday’s game against the Chicago Bulls and Sunday’s regular season finale against the Boston Celtics is uncertain. Both games are extremely important for the Magic’s playoff hopes.
