Fife Flyers Face Tough EIHL Weekend Against Clan and Blaze

Week 29 of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) season sees the Fife Flyers wrapping up their season series against the Glasgow Clan and the Coventry Blaze. The Flyers will visit the Clan on Friday night and then host the Blaze on Saturday night for their penultimate home game of the season.

Tedesco’s EIHL Return Boosts Clan

Daniel Tedesco joined the Clan mid-season. The 32-year-old forward was previously with the Bloomington Bison in the ECHL. Tedesco played in the EIHL last season during his second stint with the Guildford Flames. During his first Elite League season with the Surrey side, he scored 36 goals and provided 55 assists in 67 games, totalling 91 points. He was also named in the EIHL’s first All-Star team at the end-of-season, league-wide awards.

Throughout the 2022/23 season, the Flames fiercely contested the top spot in the League title race with the Belfast Giants. The Giants then signed Tedesco for the following season, where he became their top scorer with 24 goals and 30 assists in 63 games. He returned to Guildford last season and almost matched his Belfast season with 15 goals and 38 assists in 63 games. He has been a constant in the Italian National side over the last five years and was considered for the host nation’s Olympic roster last month.

Before arriving in the UK, Tedesco spent two seasons in the Alps HL with Fassa, where he led his side in points for the 2021/22 season. He also had stints in the ECHL with teams like Wichita Thunder, Idaho Steelheads, and Wheeling Nailers, as well as with Pensacola Ice Flyers and Mississippi River Kings in the SPHL. He played NCAA hockey for St Cloud State University, where he won two Championship trophies during his college hockey campaign.

Flyers Aim to Break Losing Streak Against Clan

The Flyers will be aiming to end their 9-game losing streak on the road against the Clan. This represents their worst run on Clan ice across all EIHL competitions.

During this losing run, the Clan have outscored the Flyers 43-14.

  • Josh Winquist is the Flyers’ top scorer against the Clan in all competitions this season with 6 goals.
  • Brett Neumann leads the Clan in scoring in the fixture with 7 goals.
  • The Flyers have killed 23 of 26 Clan powerplays this season, which is 88.46 percent and their best kill rate against all teams.

Powerplay and Penalty Kill Stats

The Flyers’ powerplay against the Flames is 2 for 19, which is 10.53 percent and the second-lowest against all teams. The Clan have been on the powerplay 140 times in all competitions this season, with only the Flyers having been on it fewer times at 138.

The Clan, however, have faced the fewest penalty kills, with 131, while the Flyers have been on the penalty kill the most times, with 197.

Only Cardiff have scored the opening goal of games this season more times than Glasgow.

Glasgow have scored the fewest 3rd period goals of all teams this season.
