Verstappen’s Youngest F1 Winner Record Under Threat?

Max Verstappen’s record as the youngest ever F1 Grand Prix race winner is under scrutiny as a new generation of drivers emerges. The Red Bull superstar set the mark with a victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. His win came in his first Red Bull outing.

Verstappen was 18 years, 7 months and 15 days old when he won in Barcelona. He fended off multiple Ferrari attacks from Kimi Raikkonen. Fast forward nearly 10 years, and Verstappen now has four world titles.

Antonelli’s Chance in Shanghai

Kimi Antonelli, the 19-year-old Italian, had the chance to join the list at the Chinese Grand Prix. Antonelli was on pole for Sunday’s race in Shanghai. A win would have placed him second behind Verstappen in the youngest winners list.

Lindblad Eyes the Record

Arvid Lindblad is another Racing Bulls rookie who could break Verstappen’s record. Lindblad turns 19 on August 8.

He would need to register a victory in the next few weeks to beat Verstappen.

Verstappen displaced Sebastian Vettel as the youngest ever race winner back in 2016. Prior to that Sebastian Vettel was the youngest winner with Toro Rosso back in 2008.

Top 10 Youngest F1 Winners

Here are the top ten youngest F1 drivers ever to win a race in the series:

  • Max Verstappen
  • Sebastian Vettel
  • Troy Ruttman

Note: Troy Ruttman’s victory at the 1952 Indianapolis 500 counts on this list, as the race was part of the official 1952 World Drivers’ Championship season.

Verstappen’s record as a precocious genius still stands.
