Everton Women vs Leicester City: WSL Match Preview

Everton Women’s Courtney Brosnan is focused on their upcoming match against Leicester City, aiming to put a controversial defeat to Arsenal behind them. Brosnan hopes a large crowd will be at Goodison Park to see Everton Women conclude their season positively.

The Blues are set to host Leicester City, who are currently at the bottom of the WSL, at Goodison Park this weekend. However, the Toffees have only managed two league wins at the venue this season.

Team Updates and Potential Lineups

Honoka Hayashi is doubtful for the weekend’s match after suffering some discomfort during Wednesday’s game at the Emirates. The rest of the available players appeared to emerge from the match unscathed. Yuka Momiki is expected to be eager for the fixture against the Foxes, having moved from the East Midlands to Merseyside during the summer. Ruby Mace is also preparing to face her former team this weekend.

While eighth place is the highest Phelan can realistically aim for, they could finish as low as 11th if results go against Everton.

Leicester City’s Preparations

Leicester coach Rick Passmoor has confirmed that Katie Keane will be in goal this weekend. Janina Leitzig and Olivia Clark are currently sidelined. Jutta Rantala is available for selection for Leicester’s final regular season fixture, as they prepare for a play-off game to determine their top flight status.

Passmoor will be eager to add to his team’s two league wins this season, the last of which was at home against London City Lionesses in December.

The Foxes, who have the leakiest defence and least effective forward line in the division, will be hoping that Everton’s poor form continues. Shannon O’Brien, an England U-23 forward, has been the team’s only goalscorer since March, although Alisha Lehmann is also capable of troubling opposing defences.

Previous Encounters

In October, Noémie Mouchon’s late goal secured a draw after Ornella Vignola’s earlier effort. Last season’s fixture at Everton saw the hosts win emphatically 4-1, with two goals from Kelly Gago and goals from Katja Snoeijs and Hayashi.

Leicester won their home fixture against Everton in the 2024/25 campaign, with a goal from Momiki deciding the match for her then employers.

Brosnan is encouraging her teammates to end the campaign strongly and celebrate with a large crowd.
