Emil Krafth is set to leave Newcastle United this summer. The Sweden international will be recognised at St. James’ Park during a half-time presentation at Sunday’s Premier League fixture with West Ham.
Krafth’s Time at Newcastle United
Emil will depart the club with 106 Magpies appearances and a Carabao Cup winners medal to his name after arriving from French side Amiens in 2019. The 31-year-old, nicknamed ‘Krafu’ for his dependable performances at right back, will be remembered fondly on Tyneside, particularly for his role in the team’s upturn in fortunes following Eddie Howe’s appointment in the 2021/22 season.
Emil said: “I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to represent this incredible football club for the past seven years. It’s been a huge part of my life, I’ve made some amazing memories here and Newcastle is somewhere I’ve been really proud to call home.
“I’ve had up and down moments on a personal level and some difficult times with injury, but I’ve always felt such brilliant support from the fans, my team-mates, the coaching staff and everybody connected to the club. This is something I will remember forever and want to say a massive thank you for.
“It’s been a privilege to wear the shirt and especially to play a part in a team that has managed to make history in the last few years. I believe the future is really bright for this club and I’ll be following the journey closely and continuing to support from a distance.”
Eddie Howe’s Tribute
Head coach Eddie Howe added: “Emil has embodied what it means to be a Newcastle United player on and off the pitch. He’s been a brilliant servant to the club and he absolutely deserves the send-off that I know he’ll get at St. James’ Park this weekend.
“Emil can be really proud of everything he has achieved here. He’s been a big part of our success over the last few seasons and although he’s been unfortunate with injury of late, he’s played a valuable role behind the scenes with his positive mentality and outstanding professionalism.
“I can only speak highly of Emil as a player and a person, and I speak on behalf of all the backroom staff in thanking him for his commitment and wishing him the very best of luck in whatever comes next.”
Ross Wilson’s Comments
Sporting Director Ross Wilson commented: “I offer my thanks to Emil for his seven years at Newcastle United and wish him well for the next chapter of his career.
“Emil has faced personal setbacks this season but has shown resilience and dedication throughout, always putting the team before himself.
“It’s clear how respected Emil is by his team-mates, the staff and the supporters, and Sunday’s game gives everyone at St. James’ Park the perfect opportunity to show their appreciation for his contribution to the club.”
Emil will depart the club with a Carabao Cup winners medal.
