Dolphins Re-Sign Defensive Pair as Free Agency Opens

The Miami Dolphins have re-signed defensive tackle Matthew Butler and cornerback A.J. Green III.

The Dolphins had several players hitting free agency on Wednesday when the new league year officially opened. Miami announced the re-signings on Wednesday evening.

Green III Returns to Miami’s Defence

A.J. Green III, a cornerback, is returning to the Dolphins. The 27-year-old played at Oklahoma State, earning All-Big 12 honours twice, before going undrafted in 2020. In six seasons in the NFL, he’s also spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams.

He’s appeared in 39 games, starting two. Green III has recorded 41 tackles, seven passes defensed, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Butler Back on the Defensive Line

Matthew Butler, a defensive tackle, is also staying with the Dolphins. The 26-year-old entered the league as a fifth-round pick (No. 175 overall) of the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2022 NFL draft out of Tennessee. He signed with Miami last year after three with the Raiders.

In his four seasons, Butler has appeared in 27 games and started two. He has recorded 27 tackles and a half-sack.
