The 8th edition of the Dolomites Saslong Half Marathon is fast approaching, scheduled for June 6th at 9 am. The event, organised by ASV Gherdëina Runners, led by Manuela Perathoner, is generating excitement as it prepares to welcome athletes.
A Course Like No Other
The half marathon route spans 21 km with 900 metres of elevation gain around Sassolungo. Runners will experience views of the Sciliar, Alpe di Siusi, and the Gruppo del Sella.
Alberto Vender, the defending champion, describes the race as “a unique and unmissable event”. He stated, “It’s one of the most beautiful races I’ve ever run, and I say that with complete frankness, because in terms of scenery, I don’t recall other events that enjoy such a setting.”
International Interest is High
The “Dolomites Half Marathon” has garnered international recognition, with confirmed participants from over 20 nations. To ensure the best possible experience, the race is capped at 600 runners, with entries rapidly selling out; just over 100 places remain.
Vender’s Affection for the Course
Vender was impressed with the Dolomites Saslong Half Marathon. “Last year was a really nice surprise. I knew the event from the outside thanks to photos and videos, but experiencing it proved to be something else entirely. I was very happy to have seized the opportunity to participate, and of course to have won a truly unique race.”
During the 7th edition, Vender found the 21 km course with its 900 metres of elevation gain, winding through Val Gardena and Val di Fassa, to his liking. The race starts and finishes at 1636 metres at Monte Pana.
“The course is really beautiful and also very varied. There are runnable sections, with challenging climbs, descents, some a little more technical, and traverses in beautiful contexts. It is a 360° course that satisfies all the various needs of the athletes. For those who are more inclined to climb, in fact, there are several sections with demanding ascents, and the same applies to those who are more inclined to the runnable sections or descents.”
Looking Ahead
Vender considers the Dolomites Saslong Half Marathon a must-attend event. He said, “It’s an event that has become unmissable for me. In addition to a spectacular course, there is also impeccable organisation that makes this event truly enjoyable.”
