Djokovic Withdraws from Miami Open with Shoulder Injury

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Miami Open with a shoulder injury, days after his defeat to Jack Draper at Indian Wells.

The 38-year-old, who appeared exhausted during his fourth-round loss to Draper on Wednesday, had been aiming to compete at the Miami Open after losing in the final last year. However, the ATP Tour has announced that he will be absent from the 15-day event at the Hard Rock Stadium due to a right shoulder injury.

Djokovic’s Ranking Under Threat

Djokovic’s withdrawal threatens his position as world No 3. Alexander Zverev, who reached the semi-final in Indian Wells, is set to overtake him in the ATP rankings.

Djokovic has won the Miami Open six times. He was last year’s runner-up, losing to Jakub Mensik, and has made the final eight times.

Draper’s Performance and Djokovic’s Comments

Following his defeat to Draper, who subsequently lost to Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-final, Djokovic commented on Draper’s form. He said, “He’s been playing on a great level.”

Djokovic added, “I’ve watched him a little bit, had some highlights in Dubai that he has played there a few matches. And here, defending champion, he really likes the conditions and suiting his game. And you could see that.”

He continued, “He’s playing really well. He’s confident and he was always confident and physically very fit.”
