Derby County to Celebrate 1995/96 Promotion at Oxford United Game

Derby County is marking the 30th anniversary of their promotion to the Premier League under Jim Smith with a special celebration at this weekend’s fixture against Oxford United.

Retro Kit Launch

To mark the anniversary, Derby County is releasing a limited edition replica of their iconic 1995/96 home shirt. The kit, supplied by PUMA, will be available for purchase from 8am on Tuesday 28th April. This date marks 30 years since the Rams secured a vital victory over Crystal Palace, which saw them return to the top-flight.

The 1995/96 replica has been manufactured by PUMA to closely match the original specification. It features a V-neck black collar tipped with yellow and white, an embroidered ‘Derby County’ logo, and striped black and white sleeves with yellow piping. The replica shirts will retail at £65 and will be available both in person at the Derby County Megastore and online.

The Derby County Megastore will extend its opening hours from 8am to 7pm on the day of the launch. The number of purchases per transaction will be limited.

1995/96 Anniversary Celebrations at Oxford United Fixture

Players from the 1995/96 squad will attend this weekend’s fixture vs Oxford United. The game takes place on Saturday 18th April, with a 12.30pm kick-off. The players will receive a replica version of the kit with the addition of their legacy number.

All graphics for the Oxford United fixture will feature current first team players sporting the replica shirt. A special edition of The Ram, featuring an interview with then assistant coach Steve McClaren, will also be available for £5 at the game and online.

Kit Details

This year’s home kit draws inspiration from the 1995/96 shirt, which was the first to be supplied by PUMA. Striped sleeves and the use of yellow cuffs make a significant nod towards the sought-after ‘90s strip.

  • The shirt is cut in a relaxed fit, inspired by the looser silhouettes of 90s football kits.
  • It won’t fit like modern PUMA football shirts, which are designed with a slimmer, more athletic cut.
  • Expect this to feel roomier through the body and sleeves for a more classic, throwback look.

Fans can sign up for the Fanatics mailing list to receive a direct email as soon as the shirt is available.
