De Vries Secures Maiden Mahindra Win; Ticktum Penalised in Monaco

Nyck de Vries clinched his first victory for Mahindra in the Monaco E-Prix, marking a significant moment for both driver and team. The Dutch driver’s win came after starting on the front row and executing a PIT BOOST strategy effectively. However, Dan Ticktum, who started on pole position, saw his podium hopes dashed due to a post-race penalty.

De Vries’s Winning Strategy

De Vries made an early PIT BOOST stop on Lap 16. He timed his ATTACK MODE activation perfectly, overtaking Antonio Felix da Costa on Lap 20. De Vries remained unchallenged to the chequered flag, finishing with a three-second lead.

This victory marks de Vries’s fifth career win and Mahindra’s first in the GEN3 era. It was his first win since Berlin 2022.

Ticktum’s Podium Hopes Dashed

Dan Ticktum looked set to finish in third place. However, a late-race incident with da Costa led to a post-race penalty. This promoted his teammate, Pepe Marti, to third, a career-best finish for the rookie.

Marti also becomes the first Spaniard to achieve a podium finish in Formula E.

Evans Takes Championship Lead

Mitch Evans finished in second place, marking his fifth Monaco podium. This result sees Evans take the lead in the Drivers’ World Championship. He now has a 15-point lead over Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein.

Early Race Incidents

Ticktum led the pack at the start. The calm was short-lived, with the first Safety Car coming out on Lap 4 after Nick Cassidy and Jake Dennis encountered trouble. Cassidy received a 10-second time penalty for the incident.

Upon the restart on Lap 6, Joel Eriksson and Nico Mueller almost made contact. A few laps later, Mueller collided with his Porsche teammate Wehrlein. Both drivers were forced to pit due to damage.

Oliver Rowland also suffered a puncture, forcing him into a pit stop and ending his chances of scoring points.
