De’Anthony Melton: Guard Hints at Free Agency Move

De’Anthony Melton’s future is up in the air as he nears the decision date for his player option with the Golden State Warriors. The veteran guard has until June 29 to decide whether to take the option or enter free agency.

Melton’s recent comments suggest he might be leaning towards testing the market. He stated he believes his contributions should be rewarded.

Melton’s Comments on His Future

Melton spoke about his situation on 95.7 The Game.

“I’ve been in this league a decent amount of time,” Melton said. “So, eight years is a lot of time. I’ve put in a lot of time and effort and work into this. I think that should be rewarded and I think, for anybody, you put in that much time, effort, work and you’ve seen the results and you’ve seen how impactful you are and what you have done, like I said, you want to be rewarded for that. So, whatever comes with it, comes with it, but, end of the day, you want to get rewarded for your services.”

Injury-Hit Time with Golden State

Melton signed a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors in 2024, set to earn $12.8 million. He was expected to play a key role, but his season was cut short after just six games due to a season-ending setback.

He was then traded to the Brooklyn Nets in December 2024 but didn’t play for them, finishing his rehabilitation under contract.

In 2025, Melton returned to the Warriors on a two-year deal. He is currently earning $3.08 million this season and has a $3.4 million player option for the 2026-2027 season.

Possible Reunion With Philadelphia?

A return to the Philadelphia 76ers could be on the cards. Despite leaving the Sixers, Melton reportedly has a good relationship with Tyrese Maxey.

This connection could prove useful if the Sixers consider bringing Melton back during free agency.

The Sixers have struggled with ball-handling this season. Tyrese Maxey’s high minutes per game shows this. Kyle Lowry’s and Cam Payne’s deals are expiring, so the Sixers will likely look at options.

Depending on the financial “reward” Melton is seeking, he could be a target for the Sixers.

Melton’s future remains uncertain as he weighs his options for the upcoming season.
