Boca Juniors and Barcelona of Ecuador will play each other in the Bombonera in the Copa Libertadores.
The match is on Tuesday and is one of the matches corresponding to the second round of Group D. Both teams need to add three points to their position in the table.
The match starts at 21.30 (Argentinian time). It will be broadcast live on Fox Sports.
Boca Juniors’ Copa Libertadores Aims
Boca Juniors, who are the top seed in the group, won their debut match against Universidad Católica de Chile 2-1 in Santiago. They are hoping to win again to secure their qualification for the round of 16, even though there will be four more matches to play.
Last Saturday, they drew 1-1 against Independiente in the Torneo Apertura 2026. The team mostly consisted of substitute players as they were resting players for this international match, and also for the Superclásico against River on Sunday 19 April. Only goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín and Santiago Ascacíbar played in both matches.
Leandro Paredes and Tomás Aranda are returning to the team, after not playing against Rojo.
Barcelona’s Challenge in Buenos Aires
Barcelona started the group stage with a 1-0 defeat at home against Cruzeiro. They need to get a good result in the Bombonera to avoid being relegated in the standings.
Barcelona’s Copa Libertadores began in the play-offs, where they eliminated Argentinos Juniors and Botafogo of Brasil in succession. This makes them a dangerous opponent for Boca Juniors.
Barcelona’s squad includes several Argentinian players, including Darío Benedetto, who used to play for Boca Juniors. The other Argentinian players in the Ecuadorian team are Milton Celiz, Luca Sosa, Matías Lugo, Tomás Martínez and Héctor ‘Tito’ Villalba.
