Manchester’s live entertainment landscape has undergone a significant transformation since the opening of Co-op Live on the Etihad Campus on 14 May 2024.
The construction of the £365 million venue took over three years.
Early Challenges and Economic Impact
The early days were not without their difficulties. Co-op Live faced power supply issues, show cancellations, and subsequent reputational damage in its first few weeks.
However, the venue has since made a substantial economic impact. Turner & Townsend reported that the stadium has contributed over £1.3 billion in turnover since opening.
A Hub for Major Events
Co-op Live is now a destination for major events. The venue hosts 120 events each year, drawing approximately 1.3 million visitors annually, a significant boost to Manchester’s entertainment calendar.
Adding to its growing reputation, the NBA will hold its first regular-season game in Manchester at Co-op Live in 2027.
The arena has also been recognised as the New Concert Venue of the Year at industry awards, attracting more event organisers.
Revenue Streams and Partnerships
The venue’s financial success is driven by several key revenue streams.
- Ticketing volume, with 120 events per year and an average capacity of 20,000 per show.
- Sponsorship and partner revenue, including partnerships with Barclays, OVO, Diageo, and Sky.
- Hospitality, food and drinks, with 32 bars, restaurants, lounges, and 12 premium hospitality spaces.
Co-op is the main headline sponsor, but commercial partnerships extend across various categories, from transport to technology.
Looking Ahead
The future appears promising for Co-op Live. Securing the 2027 NBA fixture is a major achievement that will elevate its international profile.
With momentum on its side, and major events choosing the venue, Co-op Live looks set to remain a prominent destination on the UK entertainment circuit.
