Chiefs Adjust Roster: Godrick Exemption, Powell Waived

The Kansas City Chiefs have tweaked their offseason roster ahead of organised team activities (OTAs), making two roster moves on Wednesday to open up 90-man roster space.

Kansas City received an international player exemption for tackle Chukwuebuka Godrick, a native of Lagos, Nigeria, who has been with the Chiefs since 2023.

Godrick’s International Player Exemption

The Chiefs have received an international player exemption for tackle Chukwuebuka Godrick. He has been with the Chiefs since 2023.

Godrick was signed to the active roster in December after a slew of offensive line injuries and started the Chiefs’ final three games last season, his third with Kansas City.

The exemption means Godrick will not count on the offseason roster, allowing the Chiefs to take 91 players into training camp. If he is again signed to the practice squad after camp, Kansas City would be allowed a 17th member on the unit.

Should Godrick make the 53-man squad in August, the exemption would end, and he would count fully against roster limits.

Powell Waived After Draft Selection

Also on Wednesday, the Chiefs waived running back ShunDerrick Powell. Powell signed with Kansas City on January 6.

A product of Central Arkansas, Powell signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2025. He had taken a 30 visit with the Chiefs last draft cycle.

The Chiefs traded up in the fifth round to select Nebraska running back Emmett Johnson with the 161st pick in this year’s draft. Multiple undrafted free agent running backs, including Oklahoma’s Jaydn Ott, have also been reported to be signing with Kansas City.

These moves come as teams continually tweak their offseason rosters after the NFL Draft and the addition of undrafted free agents.
