Chargers Bolster Running Back Ranks with Keaton Mitchell

The Los Angeles Chargers have added speed to their running back options.

They have agreed to terms with Keaton Mitchell on a multi-year contract.

Mitchell Reunites with Hortiz in Los Angeles

Mitchell is a familiar face for Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz. The two were together in Baltimore when the running back joined the organisation as an undrafted free agent in 2023.

Mitchell’s Impact as a Rookie

Mitchell made an instant impact as a rookie, rushing for 396 yards and a pair of scores in eight games on just 47 carries. He averaged 8.4 yards per attempt.

Mitchell’s rookie season included a 138-yard performance against Seattle on just nine rushes.

Injury Setback and Recovery

An ACL injury ended his rookie season in December. The injury also affected Mitchell’s 2024 season, as he played in just five games.

Mitchell looked like his old self in 2025 with 341 rushing yards on 59 attempts, for 5.8 yards per carry. That average was first among running backs with at least 50 carries last season, and he also added 11 runs of 10-plus yards.

Chargers Add Depth and Potential

The move adds both depth and big-play potential to the backfield.
