Brendan Fraser Named Honorary Starter for Indy 500

Actor Brendan Fraser has been named the honorary starter for the Indianapolis 500.

The announcement was made as teams prepared for qualifying at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Fraser’s Indiana Roots and New Role

Fraser was born in Indianapolis.

He stars in a new film called ‘Pressure’, playing General Dwight D. Eisenhower in the lead-up to D-Day.

Honouring Military Heroes

IndyCar and IMS President Doug Boles said Fraser is a perfect choice to start the race, given his new role and the Memorial Day weekend tradition.

Boles stated that Fraser’s presence atop the flag stand is fitting as they honour the service and sacrifice of military heroes.

Boles added, ‘Brendan was also born in the Circle City, and we’re incredibly excited to give him a warm Hoosier welcome as he returns for ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.’’

Fraser’s Career Highlights

Fraser is known for his roles in ‘The Mummy’ franchise.

He recently won an Academy Award for his performance in the 2022 film ‘The Whale’.

It’s always great to see some serious star power getting in on not just IndyCar’s biggest race, but one of the biggest races on the planet.

Qualifying takes place on Saturday and Sunday, while the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 will be on Sunday, May 24, with coverage getting started at 10 a.m. ET on Fox.
