Bournemouth were left frustrated after rain stopped their progress towards a win over Hampshire Academy. This marks the second time in three games that weather has caused an abandonment for the team.
Dominant Bowling Display From Bournemouth
Bournemouth bowled first after losing the toss and dismissed their hosts for 149. The hosts at Chapel Gate bowled impressively. They took wickets at regular intervals and didn’t let Hampshire pull away or build any major partnerships.
James Brehaut and Alfie Appleby Ingram each claimed three wickets. Connor Smith took two wickets, and Josiah Edy took one, with Appleby Ingram also contributing a runout. The biggest partnership for the visitors was 38 for the sixth wicket.
Strong Start Thwarted by Weather
Bournemouth made an excellent start to chasing down the target, with openers Ben Van Der Merwe and Alfie Appleby Ingram leading the charge. Bournemouth reached 78/0 after 14.3 overs. Van Der Merwe reached 28, and Appleby Ingram scored 32.
However, the rain prevented them from reaching the point which would have constituted a game. Bournemouth were denied a second victory in a row due to the weather.
Positives Despite Frustration
Despite the frustration of the abandonment, Bournemouth remain second in the table, just below their visitors, but with identical records from their first three games. Skipper Tom Robinson was pleased with his side’s performance. He said it was “A great team performance.”
“The bowling unit worked brilliantly as a group to show real discipline and skill to bowl Hampshire Academy out,” Robinson added.
Robinson also noted, “While Ben and Alfie were outstanding up top with the bat.”
“Unfortunately the rain came and we couldn’t reach the 5 and a bit more overs needed to constitute a game but we focus on what we can control and take all the positives from another great display as we head to Portsmouth next week,” Robinson concluded.
