Bo Bichette’s Slow Start Mirrors Other Mets Struggles

Bo Bichette’s early performance for the New York Mets has been underwhelming. In his first 14 games, Bichette is batting .230 with no home runs and 16 strikeouts.

Bichette Joins a List of Slow Starters

Bichette is not the first Mets star to struggle offensively at the beginning of their tenure with the club. Francisco Lindor had a tough start in 2021. In his first 14 games as a Met back in ’21, Lindor was batting .159.

Lindor’s struggles continued beyond those first 14 games. Through 25 games, his average was .152 with one home run. By his 50th game, it was up to .214, but he finished the season with a .230 average, a career low.

Lindor is experiencing another slow start this season, batting .164 through 14 games.

Soto’s Initial Stumbles Compared

Juan Soto’s beginning with the Mets last season wasn’t as poor as Lindor’s early struggles. Through 14 games, Soto was hitting .265 with one home run. Soto had 12 walks at that stage, while Bichette has only three this season.

Soto became an MVP candidate last season after a strong June. Soto had a 1.196 OPS with 11 home runs in June.

Beltrán Bucked the Trend

Carlos Beltrán did not struggle at the start of his Mets career. In his first 14 games, he hit .286 with two home runs and eight RBI. Beltrán cooled off later in the year, finishing with a .266 average, though he did suffer vertigo in August.

Bichette will look to improve on his slow start as the season progresses.
