Bayern Munich will be missing several key players for their match against Bayer Leverkusen. Head coach Vincent Kompany is anticipating a focused effort from Bayer Leverkusen, who he believes will be targeting three points and not dwelling on their Champions League tie against Arsenal.
Kompany’s Expectations for Leverkusen
Kompany highlighted Leverkusen’s tactical approach, noting their 5-2-3 formation and Ernest Poku’s occasional movement into midfield. He acknowledged the difficulty Arsenal faced in breaking them down. Kompany believes that the Leverkusen game being a tough one is perfect for him, as his players will know it won’t be easy. He said that Bayern will have to be aggressive if they are going to get a result.
He noted that Leverkusen have a lot of talent, but a little less experience than in previous years. Kompany thinks it will be a good game for the fans and hopefully for Bayern, too.
Goalkeeper Situation and Team Morale
With Manuel Neuer unavailable, Sven Ulreich is set to start in goal for Bayern Munich. Kompany expects the team to rally around Ulreich, a popular figure within the squad.
Kompany emphasised that they are not putting any pressure on Ulreich. He added that Ulreich has always done the right thing in training and that Bayern have complete confidence in their players and want to win with him.
Injury Updates: Kane, Neuer, Davies, and Musiala
Kompany provided updates on the status of several players, including Harry Kane and Manuel Neuer. Jonas Urbig, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala are all confirmed to be out against Bayer Leverkusen.
Regarding Kane, Kompany stated, “(Kane) might play tomorrow. He had a full week of training. We didn’t take any risks with him. We can’t let up, even though we’re eleven points ahead. If Harry is fit, he’ll play. We’re gathering more information about his fitness today.”
Kompany said they will probably wait until after the international break for Neuer. He noted that Urbig, Musiala, and Davies are all out, but it could’ve been worse. Jonas Urbig should be back at some point next week. Jamal will probably resume training at the beginning of next week. As for Phonzy, the international break will help. Hopefully he’s back with the team after the break.
Looking Ahead
Bayern Munich are eleven points ahead. Kompany said they can’t let up.
