Athletics Aim to Extend Winning Streak Against Angels

The Athletics are aiming to extend their winning streak after edging past the Angels in the second game of their four-game series. Having briefly dipped below .500, the Athletics are now back to an even record. A win would feel good as they look to remain atop the AL West division all alone, currently holding a half-game lead over the Texas Rangers.

Civale Takes the Mound

Aaron Civale is scheduled to start for the Athletics, marking his 10th appearance this year. The right-hander has been a standout performer for the team, leading the starting staff with a 2.70 ERA in his first season. Civale will be aiming to lower that number even further with a strong performance against a division rival.

In five career starts against the Halos, Civale has a 4.28 ERA. He will be hoping for better results now that he’s in a new uniform.

Starting Lineups

Here’s the Athletics’ starting nine for the game:

  • Carlos Cortes will be the leadoff man in right field, replacing Lawrence Butler.
  • Langeliers will bat second, followed by Kurtz batting third and Rooker hitting cleanup.
  • Sodey will bat behind Rooker, followed by Zack Gelof at third, McNeil at the keystone, Bolte back in centre field, and Hernaiz handling shortstop.

Jack Kochanowicz is getting the start for the Angels this evening. He struggled in his first appearance this season before finding a groove, but has recently allowed six runs in each of his previous two outings.

The Angels’ starting nine is managed by Kurt Suzuki. Josh Lowe will replace Jose Siri in left field.

Series Implications

The Athletics have lost four of their five series this month after a successful April. A loss tonight would guarantee at best a split and create a significant situation for the series finale. The Athletics will be keen to avoid that scenario.
