Arsenal’s Stance on Viktor Gyokeres Clear Amid Transfer Links

Arsenal are preparing for their return to Premier League action as they continue their title challenge. Mikel Arteta’s side will play Bournemouth on Saturday. The Gunners currently have a nine-point lead over Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

Arsenal are also planning their strategy ahead of the summer transfer window.

Gyokeres’ Return to Sporting CP

Viktor Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal from Sporting CP last summer, recently faced his former club in the Champions League quarter-final. Gyokeres enjoyed a successful spell with Sporting CP, scoring 97 goals in 102 appearances. His transfer to Arsenal followed a summer saga that reportedly involved Gyokeres going on strike.

Sporting’s president stated at the time that they would be comfortable keeping Gyokeres for the next three years if his market value was not met. Despite the circumstances of his departure, Gyokeres displayed respect for Sporting during the Champions League match. He chose not to celebrate Kai Havertz’s late winner alongside his team-mates.

Gyokeres later posted on social media: “Great feeling being back to this special place with a lot of memories. Thanks for the reception, on to the next one.”

Interest in Lucca Marques

Arsenal have been linked with Sao Paulo teenager Lucca Marques. The 18-year-old has attracted attention after breaking into the Brazilian club’s first team. Arsenal are reportedly competing with Borussia Dortmund for Marques’ services, according to Sport Bild.

Marques has an estimated valuation of £2.6million, though Sao Paulo would expect a higher sum. Arsenal are reportedly the most advanced in discussions, although other European sides are also interested, according to Sport Bild. Marques’ current deal runs until 2028. He is currently unavailable due to a thigh problem.

Arsenal’s next game is against Bournemouth, as they aim to build on their midweek victory over Sporting CP.
