América Manager on Brink as Querétaro Clash Looms

América manager André Jardine is on the verge of his worst run since taking charge, with a match against Querétaro looming large.

Since Jardine’s arrival in the summer of 2023, América have not registered three consecutive defeats in any Liga MX competition. This weekend’s visit to Querétaro presents the possibility of a new low for the Brazilian manager.

Jardine’s Record Under Threat

Jardine is currently in his sixth tournament with América, having overseen more than 100 matches between Liga and Liguilla. His worst run to date came in Apertura 2024, with losses against Puebla and Cruz Azul in matchdays 5 and 6.

On that occasion, the manager avoided a third consecutive defeat with a victory in the Clásico Nacional against Chivas, thanks to a goal from Ramón Juárez.

Now, that negative record has been equalled. Defeats against Tigres and FC Juárez have placed América on the brink of an unprecedented run since Jardine’s arrival.

The match against Querétaro will determine whether América falls into its worst sporting crisis of the Jardine era. A third consecutive defeat would confirm the most difficult moment for the manager and raise concerns heading into the final stretch of the season, with the club also competing in Concacaf.

Club Backs Under-Pressure Manager

Despite the poor run, the club’s board is remaining calm. They do not believe the team is in crisis and are confident that the squad will respond and fight for their objectives in both the domestic and international competitions.

Santiago Baños, the club’s sporting president, has backed the team in a press conference, recalling that América have shown the ability to recover from difficult moments.

“We were already in a similar position in the ‘tricampeonato’. We qualified as eighth, we already know how to get up from this pothole. We are calm; if tomorrow were the Liguilla, we would be a little more worried. We have many points ahead, we are two points away. With sights on the Concachampions,” said Baños.

América Aim to Avoid Unwanted Record

With the backing of the board, América travel to Querétaro knowing they must avoid a third consecutive defeat under Jardine.
