The Philadelphia Eagles are facing distractions this offseason due to speculation surrounding a potential A.J. Brown trade.
The wide receiver’s absence during the team’s offseason program, including organised team activities, has fueled the rumours. The possibility of a trade looms as the Eagles approach June, when the financial implications would change.
Barkley’s Perspective on Brown’s Situation
Saquon Barkley addressed the situation in a news conference, acknowledging the business side of the NFL. “It’s football. It’s the National Football League,” Barkley stated. “It’s gonna be a hard time for me to say anything bad about A.J. Brown. I’m a big fan of A.J. Brown. One of my really good friends. One of my favorite teammates I’ve ever been around. Just respect him as a man.”
Barkley emphasised the importance of focusing on the season ahead, regardless of personnel changes. “But this is a business. It’s the NFL. If I’m not here, Jalen (Hurts) [is] not here, whoever’s not here, the show goes on. That’s how the NFL operates. You don’t really address it. It’s not really anything to be addressed. You just go about your work and keep getting better. Whatever happens, that’s above my pay grade. I’m just focused on being the best player that I can be and also be the best leader that I can be for this team going into next season.”
He noted that such decisions are above his pay grade, stressing the need to concentrate on personal improvement and leadership.
Eagles Aim to Rebound After Disappointing Season
The Eagles are looking to improve after failing to live up to expectations following their Super Bowl appearance. Their offensive performance declined during the 2025 season, resulting in a Wild Card Round exit. Barkley’s production decreased compared to his 2024 Offensive Player of the Year-winning form. His rushing yards per game fell from 125.3 to 71.3.
The passing game, led by Jalen Hurts, also struggled, ranking 23rd in the league. While Brown led the team with 78 receptions and achieved his fourth 1,000-yard receiving season with the Eagles, his unhappiness with his role and the team’s overall efficiency was a recurring theme.
The perceived lack of chemistry between Brown and Hurts has been a long-standing topic, amplified by the team’s failure to win a championship.
Hurts Focused on Offensive Improvement
Hurts addressed questions about Brown’s situation by emphasising the team’s focus on learning the offense. “I think for us, we’re focused on learning the offense,” Hurts said. “It really doesn’t change in terms of our approach to improve. There’s an ‘if,’ obviously been a lingering thing, but nothing can replace all the gr
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Brown’s future, the Philadelphia Eagles are attempting to remain focused on preparing for the upcoming season.
