Ronaldo to Feature, Moreira Overlooked
Cristiano Ronaldo is set to participate in his sixth tournament. The record holder for Portugal appearances (226) and national team goals (143) will captain the side.
Roberto Martinez announced his 27-man squad. He named four goalkeepers, including Ricardo Velho, who will train with the team but not be on the bench during matches.
PSG Well Represented in Squad
With Vitinha, Joao Neves, Nuno Mendes and Goncalo Ramos, Paris Saint-Germain have several players in the Portugal squad. Portugal will begin the competition on 17 June in Houston against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Guedes to Fill Diogo Jota Role
Gonçalo Guedes will be the ‘third man’ at centre-forward, behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonçalo Ramos. Roberto Martinez believes the Real Sociedad player offers a more mobile profile than Ronaldo and Ramos. He will take over the role of Diogo Jota, who the Portugal coach recalled during the press conference.
Moreira has been called up for the end of the Euro espoirs qualifiers, along with Geovany Quenda and Rodrigo Mora.
