The Las Vegas Aces routed the Connecticut Sun 98-69 on Wednesday night.
Chennedy Carter led the Aces with 27 points, shooting 13-of-16 from the field. A’ja Wilson contributed 22 points, 14 of which came in the third quarter.
Wilson’s Double-Double and Aces’ Dominance
A’ja Wilson also secured 11 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play. This marks her 121st career double-double.
Las Vegas built a 48-37 lead in the first half. Chennedy Carter made 7 of 9 shots for 14 points in the first half. Jackie Young added 10 points as the Aces shot 54% from the field despite going 1 of 7 from 3-point range.
Third Quarter Surge Seals the Win
The Aces outscored the Sun 30-16 in the third quarter. Carter made a layup at the third-quarter buzzer to extend the lead to 78-53.
Jackie Young and Jewell Loyd each finished with 11 points for Las Vegas. Cheyenne Parker-Tyus also added 10 points. The Aces’ bench players combined for 48 points.
Sun’s Struggles and Roster Issues
Aneesah Morrow scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Connecticut. Olivia Nelson-Ododa added 14 points. Brittney Griner (left foot) and Aaliyah Edwards (left thigh) did not play.
The Sun struggled from the field, shooting just 33%. They were also outrebounded 46-29. Connecticut also went 3 of 13 from 3-point range.
The teams face each other again on Friday night in Connecticut.
The league announced earlier Wednesday that the WNBA and NBA board of governors unanimously approved the sale and relocation of the Sun to Houston.
