Giancarlo Stanton’s spring training success has carried over into the early part of the regular season. He is showing encouraging signs for the New York Yankees.
Stanton ‘Locked In’ After Strong Spring
Cody Bellinger observed that Giancarlo Stanton has been ‘locked in’ since spring training. Bellinger noted that Stanton has carried this form into the regular season, demonstrating quality at-bats and hitting the ball hard.
Stanton is currently 6-for-12 with a home run after the Yankees’ series against the Giants. He also made an impression with his legs, scoring from second on José Caballero’s single to left field on Opening Day. Stanton also hit a 114.4 mph RBI single off Logan Webb.
Exit Velocity and Disciplined Approach
Stanton’s Statcast numbers continue to impress. During the final week of spring training, he consistently achieved exit velocities exceeding 100 mph. Aaron Boone expressed the hope that this form could be maintained into the regular season.
Boone said Stanton is disciplined, has a plan, and is executing well. He noted that even when Stanton struck out, he felt he had the right approach.
Managing Pain and Maintaining Impact
Last season, Stanton delivered a significant impact, starting in the middle of June. He had been managing pain from his tennis elbow in both arms. Over 77 games, he hit .273 with a .944 OPS and 24 home runs, equating to an 8.5 percent home run rate.
The 36-year-old continues to manage his elbows daily. He is keeping them in check without affecting his ability to hit baseballs hard.
While a return to his MVP form is not expected, the Yankees would welcome this version of Stanton if he can stay on the field.
