Liverpool’s International Call-Ups: Reds Stars Set for World Cup Prep

Liverpool’s international players are preparing to represent their nations in the upcoming international break. Several Reds have received call-ups for friendly matches and World Cup play-off games.

World Cup Play-Offs and Friendlies

Kieran Morrison has earned his first senior call-up for Northern Ireland, who are set to face Italy in the World Cup play-off semi-finals. Federico Chiesa was initially included in the Italy squad but withdrew on Monday.

The winner of that match will play Wales or Bosnia & Herzegovina for a spot at this summer’s World Cup finals. The losers will meet in a friendly. Lewis Koumas, currently on loan at Hull City from Liverpool, is in the Wales squad participating in the same section of the European play-offs.

Scotland and Germany’s Preparations

Andy Robertson’s Scotland have arranged two friendly matches as part of their preparations for the World Cup. Florian Wirtz will also join up with Germany for two games in their build-up to the tournament.

Netherlands, France, and Georgia’s Friendly Fixtures

Jeremie Frimpong, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch and Virgil van Dijk have been selected by the Netherlands for a pair of friendlies. Hugo Ekitike and Ibrahima Konate have been chosen by France for two friendly fixtures in the USA, against Brazil and Colombia. Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to be on duty for Georgia in friendly action.

Hungary and Argentina Host Friendlies

Milos Kerkez and Dominik Szoboszlai are part of the Hungary group for back-to-back friendly matches in their capital city, including one versus on-loan Reds defender Kostas Tsimikas with Greece. Alexis Mac Allister will represent Argentina on home soil as they also host two friendly encounters.

Academy Players Representing Their Nations

Academy midfielder Kyle Kelly has been selected by St. Kitts and Nevis for their participation in the FIFA Series in Indonesia. At U21 level with Hungary, meanwhile, Armin Pecsi has been selected for a camp that includes one friendly and one European Championship qualifier.

Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni will be in Portugal with England U19s for a triple-header of European Championship qualifiers. And Kornel Misciur has been selected by Poland for the same preliminaries.
