UCLA has three teams vying for a national title in their respective College World Series. The Bruins are among the favourites to win a championship in baseball and softball. Success across all three teams would establish the Bruins as a powerhouse in the college sports landscape, attracting recruits across all sports.
Bruins’ Baseball Team Faces Uphill Battle
The Bruins men’s baseball team, despite winning the Big Ten Tournament, entered the College World Series as one of the weaker 1-seeds. This narrative was reinforced after losing their first game to Saint Mary’s 3-2, putting them in danger of elimination. The baseball team is at the greatest risk of failing to win a championship.
To get back into contention, they need to rediscover their regular season form before it is too late.
Softball Team Bounces Back After Initial Scare
The softball team also entered the College World Series as a 1-seed, but were expected to make a championship run. Those hopes were put in jeopardy in their first game. They scored nine runs in the second inning of their first match to take the lead.
Adjustments are needed to avoid future scares. The softball team bounced back with an 11-0 victory against the Arkansas Razorbacks after losing to Alabama. The women’s softball team is currently the most likely of the three UCLA teams to win a title.
Following in Softball’s Footsteps
The other two squads will need to follow the softball team’s lead. The softball team has played closest to its potential.
It will be up to the other two squads to follow in their footsteps.
