Dave Rennie has been named the new coach of the All Blacks.
The 62-year-old former Wallabies coach beat out Jamie Joseph for the job. Rennie takes over after Scott Robertson stepped down in mid January following a critical review.
Rennie’s Aims for the All Blacks
Rennie described coaching the All Blacks as an incredible honour. He stated he was extremely proud to have been entrusted with the role and understands the expectations that come with it.
“I’m really clear on the way I want the All Blacks to play,” Rennie said in a New Zealand Rugby statement. He added that he looks forward to working with the players, management team, and the rugby community.
Rennie stated that there is a lot of talent within the team. He added that they will be working extremely hard to make the country proud.
Tasked with World Cup Success
Rennie has been charged with taking New Zealand to a fourth World Cup triumph in Australia next year.
The recruitment process to find the new coach started when Scott Robertson stepped down in mid January after a critical review.
Rennie succeeds Robertson in one of biggest jobs in rugby.
