Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang is attracting attention for his grounded approach to the game. He avoids the trappings of modern celebrity athletes.
Turang doesn’t engage in flashy displays or seek attention on social media. He focuses on preparation and teamwork.
Turang’s Manager Praises His Dedication
Brewers manager Pat Murphy believes Turang could have excelled in any era of baseball. Murphy emphasises Turang’s lack of interest in self-promotion.
“He’s not looking to impress you with his flair. He’s definitely not a ‘Look-at-me’ guy. He’s not looking for attention. He’s a team guy. He loves baseball.
“He just loves preparing for the game and playing it. He’s really special. It’s all legit, bro.”
Walk-Off Homer and Understated Reaction
Turang hit his first career walk-off homer against the New York Yankees on Mother’s Day. The Brewers won 4-3 in front of a packed crowd.
After the 411-foot shot cleared the centre-field fence, Turang displayed minimal emotion. He methodically rounded the bases.
When doused with Gatorade by his teammates, he seemed more annoyed about his wet cap. His post-game comments were brief.
Asked how it felt to hit his first career walk-off, Turang calmly replied: “Yeah, it felt good. Got the pitch I wanted, and drove it, so it always feels good, and feel even better when the team wins.’’
He seemingly gets more excited about finding cheap petrol.
Dominating Offensive Performance
Turang is having a stellar offensive season. He is hitting .297 with an MLB-leading .418 on-base percentage and a .921 OPS.
He also has six homers, 27 RBIs, 33 runs and eight stolen bases. He opened the season by reaching base in 21 consecutive games – the third-longest streak in franchise history.
In the last two weeks, he is hitting .375 with a 1.087 OPS.
Rankings and Platinum Glove Award
Despite his performance, MLB Network ranked Turang as the 10th-best second baseman this spring. This was seen as laughable by some.
Turang won the Platinum Glove award as the best defensive player in the National League in 2024. In 2025, he finished 14th in the MVP voting.
Last year, he hit .288 with 18 homers and 81 RBIs, leading the Brewers to the NLCS. Turang’s response to the rankings was silence, preferring to let his play speak for itself.
Turang has been central to the Brewers’ success this season.
