Royce Lewis Demoted by Minnesota Twins Amid Batting Slump

Royce Lewis is heading to the minor leagues. The Minnesota Twins demoted Lewis on Tuesday morning.

Lewis’s Struggles at the Plate

Lewis has been struggling at the plate. He was batting only .163/.261/.279 with three home runs and 13 RBIs after 119 plate appearances.

Lewis was striking out a career-high 31.1 percent of the time. His struggles have been pronounced since returning from an injured list stint on April 21, with 25 strikeouts in 74 plate appearances and a .380 OPS.

The Twins made a similar decision with Matt Wallner only five days prior, according to multiple league sources.

Early Promise and Injury

Lewis got off to a decent start after working to adjust his swing in the offseason. Through his first dozen games, he produced an .822 OPS. Lewis was walking more than ever and hitting for some power.

Lewis has been out of sorts since spraining his knee in early April.
