Torquay United is welcoming back a familiar face. Callum Morton is the first new addition to Jimmy Ball’s squad for the 2026/27 season.
Morton’s Return to Plainmoor
Callum Morton, a 26-year-old Torquay-born striker, is returning to his hometown club. He initially departed Plainmoor following the closure of United’s youth department in 2015.
After leaving Torquay, Morton continued his apprenticeship at Yeovil Town. A move to West Bromwich Albion then followed.
Loan Spells and Progression Through the Leagues
During his time with West Bromwich Albion, Morton gained first-team experience through loan spells. These included stints at Braintree, Northampton, Lincoln, Fleetwood and Peterborough.
His loan spell at Northampton proved particularly successful. He scored 8 goals in 12 games, including one in the League 2 Play-Off Final against Exeter City. This helped Northampton clinch promotion to the third tier via Wembley in 2020.
Permanent Moves and National League South
Permanent switches to Fleetwood and Salford followed his successful loan spells. Morton’s reputation in the EFL continued to build.
Before joining Torquay United, Callum had stints at Forest Green, Northampton again, and Bristol Rovers. He also spent the final weeks of the season at eventual National League South champions, Worthing.
The club is encouraging fans to support Callum and his United teammates next season. They can join United’s Plainmoor 2000 campaign by purchasing a 2026/27 Plainmoor Pass from 10am on Monday 18th May.
